S. Korea to increase tough curbs by 2 weeks

Seoul, 31 December : .South Korea’s current Covid restrictions will be extended for two more weeks on private gatherings, businesses, and other activities to stop the Omicron variant spreading, according to health officials.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the current social distancing regulations, which were put into effect on December 18, limit private gatherings to 4 people in total and have imposed a 9 pm curfew at bars, cafes and restaurants.

These measures were put in place amid alarming new infections and the government’s backtrack on an earlier plan to ease restrictions over time to restore normalcy.

These rules will be in effect until January 2.

According to authorities, the two-week extension will be announced at a Covid-19 Response Meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Kim Boo Kyum on Friday.

The virus is spreading slowly, but the government has been careful to not let the public know.There are still many people who have become seriously ill from the virus and there’s uncertainty about the future.
