Khartoum 31 December : .Mass protests began in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital.Eyewitnesses claim that protestors marched to the Republican Palace from Sharwani bus station on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses said that hundreds of soldiers were deployed to guard the entrances of bridges connecting the major cities of Khartoum and Omdurman.
Most of these areas had been closed before the protests began, according to eyewitnesses.
Xinhua reported that the mobile internet service was cut off earlier in the day, on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Sudanese Professionals Association issued a statement urging citizens to participate in the planned protests on Thursday.
Sudan is currently in a crisis of political order after the General Commander of Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declared an emergency on October 25, and disbanded the Sovereign Council.
Al-Burhan signed on November 21 a political declaration with the former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, although the agreement did not bring about any calm in the streets.
