Supporters of former Jubilee Hills MLA P.Vishnuvardhan Reddy expressed their disappointment on Saturday, October 28, after he was not granted a ticket to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The party leadership had instead assigned the Jubilee Hills ticket to former India cricket captain and ex-MP Mohammed Azharuddin.P.Vijaya Reddy, Reddy’s sister and a corporator, received a Congress ticket for the Khairatabad Assembly constituency.
In a show of frustration, Reddy’s followers protested at Gandhi Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters in Nampally, Hyderabad.
They demanded a ticket for Reddy and, unfortunately, some resorted to throwing stones.Prompt police intervention ensured that the situation did not escalate.
Earlier in the day, Reddy stated in a media interaction that he was prepared to contest from the Jubilee Hills constituency. He emphasized that he would make a final decision after consulting with his supporters on Sunday.
Sources indicated that he was in communication with Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP state president G.Kishan Reddy regarding the possibility of contesting on a BJP ticket should the Congress not address their concerns.
It is worth noting that Reddy had previously contested the Jubilee Hills constituency in the 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections without success.
Simultaneously, a group of Congress leaders, particularly those representing the Backward Classes (BC), convened at a local hotel in the city to strategize their next steps after being overlooked for party tickets.
They decided to lodge a formal complaint with the high command in New Delhi against the senior party leaders at Gandhi Bhavan for the ticket distribution.
These leaders expressed their disappointment, contending that the Congress had not given due consideration to the interests of the BC community in the ticket allocation process.
