Punjab: SIT constituted for rapid investigation into desecration, fire incident in church

Chandigarh 2 Sep : Chandigarh, Sep 2 : Punjab government has formed three members of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to speedily investigate the fire and desecration incident in an old church in Thakarpura village in Tarn Taran district.
The SIT is headed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ferozepur Range It includes SSP Tarn Taran and SP Investigation Tarn Taran.

Four unidentified individuals on Tuesday night went into the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Thakkarpura and tied the guard at gunpoint and mutilated Pieta the statue of Jesus in the lap of his mother Mary.

In an announcement, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the SIT will conduct a day-to-day investigation into the matter and will submit an official report in the court that is competent within the shortest time possible.

The SIT can also enlist any other official or official to assist in the probe of the investigation, he added.

The DGP stated that in addition to maintaining law and order and ensuring law and order, the Punjab Police is committed to maintaining a tranquil environment and harmony in Punjab.

He said that police teams are working on the case from all angles , and all of the perpetrators will be detained shortly and a strict disciplinary action against them is taken.

In connection with the incident, FIR number.148, dated 31-8-2022, had been recorded under sections 295-A, 452 427, 295-A, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Sadar Patti Police Station in Tarn Taran.
