New Delhi, Sep 2 : In the lead-up to the ‘Mehangai Per Halla Bol’ rally, which is scheduled in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on September 4 The Congress on Friday criticized the Centre on the issue of unemployment and inflation.In a press conference held here, Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh declared, “The rupee has fallen to 79.70 against the US dollar.The rate of unemployment in August according to CMIE was 8.28 percent, which is the highest in the past year.Retail inflation remains higher than the RBI’s tolerance range of 6 percent which was 6.71 percent in July.”
Vallabh stated that the BJP government, because of its poor management of the economy has pushed the Indian growth story further back.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) announced the GDP figures for the first quarter of FY23’s fiscal year on Wednesday.Vallabh said, noting that the government machinery could push specific information, but the actual picture is revealed when the numbers are compared to pre-Covid levels.
The Congress spokesperson also said that the SBI has cut its forecast of growth for FY23 from 7.5 percent to 6.8 percent, while other ratings agencies and banks are following the same pattern.
“What concrete steps are the government taking to create employment opportunities for our young people in the context of a city where unemployment rate has increased to 9.6 percent,” Vallabh asked.
