Chandrababu writes to ACB Court over alleged life threat in Prison

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, has made a request to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Vijayawada for heightened security arrangements in and around Rajamahendravaram Central Prison. In a letter addressed to the court on Wednesday, dated October 25, which was subsequently released to the media on Friday, Naidu has requested security measures befitting the Z+ Category cover that he is entitled to.

Currently, Naidu is under detention in connection with the ₹371 crore Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) case.In his letter to the Special Judge for Special Police Establishment (SPE) and ACB cases, BSV Hima Bindu, Naidu highlighted a few untoward incidents that have transpired in and around Rajamahendravaram Central Prison recently, urging the court’s consideration.

He expressed concern over incidents that "pose a risk to my safety and well-being, despite being under Z+ category security protection." Naidu recounted his transfer to judicial custody on September 10, and subsequent relocation to Rajamahendravaram prison during the night of September 10-11.

During this transition, he stated that he was "unauthorisedly videographed and photographed both upon entering the prison premises and while inside." Regrettably, Naidu noted that this footage was subsequently leaked by law enforcement authorities themselves.

These images were widely disseminated on various social media platforms by the ruling party, which he believes was done with a malevolent intent to tarnish his reputation and image, disregarding security considerations.Furthermore, Naidu mentioned being made aware of an anonymous letter received by the Superintendent of Police (SP) East Godavari and the prison authorities.

The letter indicated that certain left-wing extremists were allegedly plotting an assassination attempt on him, and significant sums of money had allegedly changed hands to facilitate this act.Naidu expressed disappointment that the police authorities have not taken any steps, as yet, to verify the authenticity of this letter.Additionally, he noted that a remand prisoner involved in an NDPS (Narcotic-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case from S Kota was reportedly moving within the prison premises with a concealed camera pen, taking pictures of fellow inmates.

Chandrababu Naidu has appealed for increased security measures to ensure his safety while in detention. He emphasizes the need for diligent attention to these concerns in the interest of maintaining security and upholding the rule of law.
