Jaipur : , Nov 21 : , Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said Saturday that the country should be paramount for all public officials, reacting to Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu calling Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan “elder brother”. Sidhu made the comment during Saturday’s visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Pakistan’s Kartarpur.
Birla said that it is a common expectation of all public officials to consider the nation their supreme regardless of whether they speak in the house or out.
Responding to another question about farm laws, he stated that “It’s the government’s responsibility to make or withdraw any law, and I as Speaker of Lok Sabha cannot comment on it.”
Birla stated that the next Parliament session would begin on November 29.
He said, “I wish the Parliament session goes smoothly and all the issues are addressed in the House.”
Birla spoke out about the 82nd All-India Presiding Officers conference, held in Shimla recently.She said some important decisions were made there.
It was decided to establish a standard procedure for all legislative bodies, keeping in mind the changes in national circumstances.
Birla stated that further discussions will take place on the anti-defection laws to improve them.
