Mumbai 29 Aug : Netflix India’s Vice-President (Content) Monika Shergill has stated that five Indian films have appeared in Netflix’s global top 10 lists thus far this year.The number of viewers of Indian film titles on the streaming platform has been up 50 percent from last year, according to Variety.
Some of the hits for the service include Alia Bhatt’s film ‘Gangubai Kathiyawa”, pan-India blockbuster ‘RRR’ as well as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, with Kartik Aaryan as well as Tabu.

Shergill also noted in an interview with “Variety,” coincidentally with the streaming service’s Films Day on Monday, that Indian films were featured in the Netflix charts that were not in English for 31 of the last 34 weeks.

Another popular Alia film is “Darlings,” whose story revolves around domestic abuse.It was the first non-English opening of a film in the language of the service globally.

The film, produced by Alia with Red Chillies Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment, also features strong performance by Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma.

Other films that were showcased at Films Day included: ‘Chakda “Xpress”, a film which is inspired by the story of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, which starred Anushka Sharma and heist thriller ‘Chor Nkal Ke Bhaga’ which stars Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal; ‘Jogi’ that takes place against the background of 1984’s Delhi anti-Sikh riots.It stars Diljit Dosanjh, and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.Also, the satire “Kathal,” featuring Sanya Malhotra.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s spy-thriller ‘Khufi which stars Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Azmeri Haque Badhon.Anurag Kashyap Acolyte Vasan Bala’s whodunnit ‘Monica My Darling’ with Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, and Radhika Apte.

Also part of the festival included Shashanka Ghosh’s romantic comedy “Plan A Plan B” with Riteish Deshmukh as Tamannaah Bhatia; the intense drama ‘Qala’ directed by Anvita Dutt, that will feature Irrfan Khan’s son Balih making his debut in a film; Zoya Akhtar’s comic book adaptation ‘The Archies’ and , the Indian version of Keigo Higashino’s Detective Galileo novel, ‘The Devotion of Suspect X which is starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, and directed by Sujoy Ghosh (“Kahaani”).
