New Delhi, Aug 14 : After the BJP on Saturday accused India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the Partition of the nation The Congress also shared Nehru’s infamous “Freedom at Midnight” speech of 1947 across various social media platforms.Additionally, in the four-page handwritten draft of the speech Nehru wrote “Date with destiny”, which he changed to “Tryst with destiny” while making his speech.
The handwritten draft of the speech Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted “75 years ago, just before midnight, Nehru gave his immortal “Tryst with Destiny speech. Here’s his handwritten draft , dated 14.8.47.He had written it as a ‘date with destiny” however, he in an instant of pure genius, he reworded it as “‘tryst with the destiny’.”
Even as the BJP is accusing Nehru for Partition, in his speech the first Prime Minister of India had spoken of Partition and described India’s future of “peace and prosperity” with no place for “narrrow mindlessness”.
Concerning the issue of Partition, Nehru had declared in his speech “We are also thinking of our sisters and brothers who are separated from us because of borders of politics and who regretfully are unable to share in the liberty that has been granted. They are of us and will remain of us, no matter what happens and we will be partakers in their luck and bad fortunes.”
In his speech Nehru stated, “Long years ago we made a shaky deal with destiny and now the moment arrives when we’ll be able to redeem our promise, but not completely or in totality but in a significant way.
“At the time of the midnight hour when the world is asleep, India will awake to life and freedom. The moment arrives, and it occurs, but not often in the history of mankind when we are able to step out from the past and into the fresh, as an era is over, and the soul of the nation, which was long suppressed, is finally heard.”
Although the BJP has blamed Nehru for a variety of reasons for a long time, in his speech he has stated “Freedom and power carry responsibility. The past is over and the future calls to us today.”
Nehru also stated that the goal of the greatest human being of our time was to wipe away every tear out of every eye.
“That might be beyond our comprehension however, so long as there is tears and suffering as long will our work end.Peace is declared to be unbreakable and so is freedom.as is prosperity today and also the possibility of disaster in this world that cannot be separated into fragments,” he had said.
“We need to construct the magnificent mansion of free India where all her children can live,” Nehru had said while sketching the outline of the future of India.
He declared, “Rejoice in that freedom even there are clouds over us, and a lot of the people are suffering and challenging issues surround us.But freedom also comes with responsibility and burdens, and we must face these challenges in the spirit of an open and disciplined population.”
Nehru also spoke of Mahatma Gandhi in his speech, stating, “On this day our first thoughts turn to the man who was the architect of this freedom and the founder of our nation. He, in embodied the ancient spirit of India was a keeper of the torch of freedom and lit up the darkness that we were in.
“Our next thoughts should be of the untold volunteers and soldiers of freedom who, with no recognition or any reward have fought for India up to the point of death.”
Nehru had ended his speech by saying: “To the nations and peoples of the world, we extend greetings and promise to work with them in helping to promote peace, freedom and democracy.
“And to India our beloved homeland, the ancient and the eternal and the ever-changing we pay our obeisance tribute and we pledge ourselves in the service of her.”
In the past, on the occasion of the ‘Day of Remembrance for the Partition Horrors The BJP was criticized by the Congress and the Communists for allowing the call of the Muslim League for a separate nation.
In a video that lasted more than seven minutes released by the saffron-colored party on Sunday the BJP in a way accused Nehru as well as Congress officials for bowing to the demands of an independent nation proposed by the Muslim League led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah instead of opposing it.
In a rebuke to the BJP, Jairam Ramesh said in tweet “The tragic events of Partition can’t be used to incite hatred and prejudice. The truth is that Savarkar invented the 2 nation theory and Jinnah perfected it.Sardar Patel wrote: “I believed that if we didn’t agree to Partition, India would be divided into a number of parts and would be destroyed completely’.”
Ramesh also stated that “modern present Savarkars and Jinnahs continue their efforts to divide the nation”.
“The Indian National Congress will keep the tradition of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and many others who remained unwavering in their efforts to unite the nation.
The politics of hatred can be crushed,” Ramesh said in another tweet.
