New Delhi, Sep 2 : Video-conferencing platform Zoom on Friday unveiled an upgrade that will let users protect data that is stored in the Zoom Cloud infrastructure by using the encryption keys they own.The platform announced that its most recent advanced security service — called Customer Managed Key (CMK) –It is designed to help users meet stricter compliance requirements.
“Every sector is confronted with its specific regulatory requirements -healthcare professionals are a prime example.HIPAA and financial institutions have to deal with the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act, NY DFS, and more.Each organization has its own method of protecting important data and staying compliant, and certain organizations require customized security solutions for this,” Karthik Raman, Group Product Manager in a statement.in an announcement.
“That is the reason why we’re so excited to announce the debut of Zoom Customer Managed Key (CMK),” Raman added.
The company stated it CMK is a service that is paid for as well as Zoom’s Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) solution.
With the Customer Managed Key feature, customers can choose to utilize their own encryption keys in order to secure certain Zoom assets like voicemails, cloud recordings as well as calendar access tokens.
The list of items that are covered by Zoom CMK includes Zoom Meeting cloud recordings (including chat transcripts and chat messages), Zoom Webinars cloud recordings, Zoom Phone voicemails and recordings, calendar access tokens to Zoom Rooms Calendars of users, user calendar access tokens Microsoft Teams access tokens and so on.
