Don’t feel like you’re a Wimbledon winner: Rybakina hits out at treatment

New York, Aug 27 : Elena Rybakina has been critical of her treatment following her win at Wimbledon and has said she isn’t feeling like a grand Slam champion.
The 23-year-old beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur to claim her first grand slam victory at the All England Club last month however, the absence of ranking points as a response from the WTA to Wimbledon’s ban on Russian and Belarusian players -is a sign that she is still not in the top 20 according to DPA.

In a press event on Friday, ahead of the US Open, Rybakina said, “Of course, everything was new to me following Wimbledon.Looking back over the past few weeks, when I have played in tournaments before, and I’d say that it was a huge accomplishment for me.I’m very satisfied of my squad, of course.In terms of experience, I would say it wasn’t the most memorable.

“I believe this is the cause of the design of the tour.In truth, it’s a little poor leadership, as there are numerous things going on.It was my goal to be the winner of Wimbledon.It’s pity.I’m feeling like I’m not the Wimbledon champion.

“You may be the best and everything is great , but at the end of the day, you’re not realizing where you’ve come from and how difficult it really is to reach where you are today.

“Since I’ve never had this feeling of being second, it’s still a different experience when you’re either top 10 or 20.

“In one tournament, I play against the best champion (Garbine) Muguruza, and we play on court four.I don’t believe this is fair.

“I’m not shocked by the fact that in the end of the day, we have many instances of players who is young and had amazing results, however in the end, they decide to give up tennis.

I believe that something needs to be improved.This is something we need to discuss further.”

Rybakina She will begin her season in New York against a qualifier she has won four of her seven matches since Wimbledon and made it to the quarterfinals in Cincinnati.

She is determined to use the situation as an incentive to win an additional title at the slam and says, “Of course, it’s not pleasant.

However, in the end, I am aware of the need to win.This gives me more motivation to keep winning.”
