Lucknow 24 Aug, Lucknow : Just 24 years after the eminent artist and Padma Shri awardee Prof Ranbir Singh Bisht died because of alleged medical negligence, the Uttar Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed an amount of 39 lakh rupees on the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) here for “negligence and improper treatment.”As per the directive according to the order, Prof.Bisht is angina-positive since 1986.He was admitted to SGPGI on September 2nd 1998.He however, died on September 25 1998, during treatment.

Bisht was then apprehensively contacted the apex consumer authority, claiming that doctors had been incompetent in the treatment, and this led to the death of her father.
She further claimed that the treatment and medication administered to the patient were not properly administered, and that the pacemaker was taken out without the approval of relatives.
The death certificate prepared by Dr.P.K.Goel included the incorrect age of the patient.
While the SGPGIMS provided the explanation and claimed that negligence was not the cause of the death of the patient The tribunal of Rajendra Singh (presiding president), Sushil Kumar and Vikas Saxena (member) found the explanations to be unsatisfactory.
In the end the court ordered SGPGIMS to pay a sum of Rs 19 lakh with an interest rate of 10 percent beginning on September 25, 1998 to be payment for negligence as well as indefacability of service provided to the complainant.
It also ordered the SGPGIMS to pay a sum of Rs 20 lakhs to the person complaining to help with mental anguish, with interest at an interest rate of 10 percent as of the date.
