Hanover (Germany) August 22 : The US Open will take place without German star Alexander Zverev, who has not fully recovered in time following an ankle injury suffered during the French Open to play in New York, a report was reported on Monday.Zverev isn’t ready to compete in the grand slam, and will instead make his return in the Davis Cup group phase, 13-18 September in his hometown of Hamburg according to Bild newspaper.
The 25-year-old world no.2 fell on his ankle in the Roland Garros final with Rafael Nadal in early June, and was afflicted with a ligament injury that required surgery, according to DPA.
The rehabilitation program however, hasn’t yet been completed in enough time to compete in the smash.
“If it were an ordinary tournament, with the best of three then maybe I’m already there,” Zverev said recently. But the best of five in the first tournament back is difficult.”
