New York, Aug 22 : It was billed as the largest Indian event outside of the country The annual India Day Parade was held in New York City celebrating the 75th anniversary of India’s celebration of Independence.Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was the grand marshal of the Sunday parade, which witnessed an a turnout of 150,000 people in both marching groups as well as as spectators on Madison Avenue.
The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) tri-state area unit who organized the celebration said that two events from the parade were listed in the Guinness Book of World Records The highest quantity of flags simultaneously flown and the largest group of the damru, also known as the twin-headed drum.
FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya said that these records are dedicated to the world Indian community.
The flags display in accordance with the current theme of celebrating the Tiranga flag, the Indian flag, was an expression of the universality of India by featuring the flags of nations across the globe.
Mayor of New York Eric Adams, holding aloft an Indian flag, was one of those who led the parade.
Composer and singer Kailash Kher led a mass singing of “Hindustan Meri Jaan”.
Over forty floats have been exhibited by Indian companies and American companies such as Dunkin Donuts and entertainment companies such as ESPN and Hulu.
A plane carrying the Indian flag flew over the city before the event and afterwards.
