New Delhi, Aug 22 : Chief Justice of India (CJI)-designate Justice U.U.Lalit during the trial in Amrapali Case on Monday stated that the case would not be complete, given that he is scheduled to retire in November and a new bench could be formed to take on the case.In the hearing in the case, Justice Lalit said this matter was initiated by the court of Chief Justice, and it will be transferred to the Chief Justice’s Court and he scheduled the case for a hearing on the 3rd of September.
Justice Lalit will take charge as the Chief Justice of India on the 27th of August.
The apex court came to the aid of hundreds of Amrapali homeowners by providing, under its direction that their flats were built and they were given possession.
With the apex court having been conducting the Amrapali case for more than four years.Justice Lalit remarked that the case would never be completed until he declared his retirement, that is scheduled in November of this year.
The apex court made sure that Amrapali homeowners’ dreams weren’t shattered.It also provided funding for the delayed Amrapali projects as an alliance of seven banks gave the final approval to fund Rs .1,500 crore for the completion of the housing projects that were not completed.
In July In July 2019, the Supreme Court, in its verdict, whipped the whip of the real estate company for violating the trust of home buyers and granted relief to more than 42,000 homeowners.
The Supreme Court directed the cancellation of the registration of the Amrapali Group under real estate law RERA and also took the responsibility to oversee the construction of the housing projects that are in limbo.
It appointed the receiver and the senior advocate R Venkataramani, to oversee construction and directed the state-owned National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) to finish the housing developments.
