New Delhi, Aug 14 : President Droupadi Murmu in her inaugural speech to the nation on the day of Independence Day talked about India’s vibrant democracy, the success of the story of Covid vaccines Atmanirbhar Bharat and the expansion of the economy of the country following the pandemic.The President of the United States on Sunday said that it’s an occasion of celebration “not just for us all of us, but also for all the advocates of democracy in the globe”.
“When India won independence, there were many leaders from around the world as well as experts skeptical about the efficacy of democratic forms of governance in India.They had their own reasons to be skeptical.
In the past the concept of democracy was restricted to countries that were economically advanced.India after many years of being a victim of the wrath of foreign leaders, was plagued by poverty and inequities.However, we Indians proved them wrong.Democracy did not just grow roots in the soil but but it was also enriched,” the President said.
Murmu said that the ‘Azadi’ Amrit Mahotsav’ is dedicated to the Indian people.of India.
“Based on the successes achieved by the masses, the determination to create ‘Atmanirbhar is also a part of this Mahotsav.People of all ages have been actively involved in the series of events across the nation,” she added.
Speaking about the vaccine’s success story that India has made, the President declared: “The world has seen the new India growing in the past few years, but more so following the outbreak of Covid-19.Our reaction to the pandemic has been lauded all over the world.
We have launched the largest vaccination campaign in the history of mankind with vaccines made in the nation itself.
“Last month, we surpassed the 200-crore threshold in the total amount of vaccines we have.
In fighting the pandemic our accomplishments have been higher than the achievements of many developed nations.We are thankful to our doctors, scientists nurses, paramedics, nurses and the personnel associated with the vaccination.”
The President stated that the pandemic had wiped out people and economies in the world.
“When the world was fighting the economic effects of the crises, India got its act together and is now moving forward.
India is one of the fastest growing big economies in the world.The Indian startup ecosystem ranks among the top in the world.
The growth of startup companies in India, particularly the increasing number of unicorns, is a shining illustration of our progress in the field of manufacturing.
“The government and the policymakers are to be commended for bucking the current trend globally and helping to boost the economy.
In the past few years, a remarkable amount of advances have been achieved in the creation of digital as well as physical infrastructures,” she added.
