After a month-long controversy over the new abbot of Sri Potulur Veerabrahmendraswamy Matam, a popular shrine in the Maidukuru constituency of Visakhapatnam district, recently Venkatadri Swamy was declared as the successor of the Matam.Maidukuru MLA S Raghuramireddy said that Venkatadriswamy, the eldest son of the former abbot Veerabhoga Vasantha Venkateswaraswamy, has been selected as the new abbot.
The MLA spoke to reporters along with Revenue department Assistant Secretary Chandrasekhar Azad.The MLA held talks with both the families of the former abbot Veerabhoga Vasantha Venkateswaraswamy for about 4 hours on Saturday night.
After hearing the opinions of Kandimallayapalle villagers, devotees and former abbot Veerabhoga Vasantha Venkateswaraswamy’s second wife Maruti Mahalakshmamma, finally, Venkatadri Swamy was appointed as the new abbot to Brahmamgari Matam.Also, the MLA said that Veerabhadraswamy, the younger son of Veerabhogavasantha Venkateswaraswamy, was appointed as his successor.
Later, Govindaswamy, the eldest son of the second wife of Veerabhogavasantha Venkateswaraswamy will be appointed as the abbot.Hence, the month-long controversy over the new abbot of Sri Potulur Veerabrahmendraswamy Matam came to an end.The Revenue Department announced that it will help in all possible ways for the development of the Matam.
