Madhoo recently shared that she decided to leave the film industry during the 90s when she was at the peak of her career.

She expressed dissatisfaction with the roles she was offered, especially the stereotypical ones for women of her age.

During the 90s, Hindi films mainly focused on action and male heroes, which limited meaningful roles for actresses like Madhoo. She mentioned that she didn’t want to play the role of Ajay Devgn’s mother, as it was a common scenario. She and Ajay Devgn had both started their careers together and were of similar age.

Madhoo, known for her strong roles in films like “Roja,” “Annayya,” and “Yodha,” shifted her focus to Hindi films. However, she felt unhappy with the shift from meaningful roles to just dancing, delivering romantic lines, and shedding tears with parents.

Her dissatisfaction eventually led her to quit the industry after about 9-10 years. She explained that she decided to leave when she wanted to get married.

She wrote a letter to the industry expressing her intention to leave, partly driven by a sense of arrogance at that time.

Madhoo also acknowledged positive changes in the film industry, citing Tabu, her contemporary, as an example.Tabu had starred opposite Ajay Devgn in recent films, showing that the industry now welcomes diverse stories and actors of all ages, sizes, and colors.Madhoo commended women who support such narratives and provide opportunities for individuals like her to make a comeback, regardless of their age.
