New Delhi, Sep 11 : Following the meeting of the national council of NCP on Sunday, general secretary of the party Praful Patel declared that Sharad Pawar was not a candidate for the post of prime minister and that the unity of the opposition was of paramount importance.He declared that Pawar was set to play an crucial roles in bringing several forces together.
Patel claimed, “Sharad Pawar was never and will never be the face of the PM.He only talks about the actual issues of the country.Some members of the party have expressed their opinions however Sharad Pawar has not expressed any desire for the post of PM.
“We recognize our weaknesses and he is not the face of the opposition, but will play a crucial role.”
Patel stated that the NCP was likely to play a major role in the coming General Elections.However, the NCP’s position made it clear there was an urgent requirement to bring together the Opposition to come together.
“We were also component of the UPA government.We don’t have an problem with the Congress,” he said.
Sharad Pawar was elected to the office of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President on Saturday without opposition during the party’s annual executive meeting in its national headquarters.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who was in the capital city of India recently, has met a number of political leaders among them Rahul Gandhi, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, CPI-M Secretary General Sitaram Yechury CPI’s D.Raja and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.Nitish Kumar’s goal of his visit was to discuss about the unity of the opposition.
He is expected to have a meeting with Sonia Gandhi when she returns from her trip abroad.Kumar has also had meetings with RJD Leader Lalu Prasad and TRS Chief K.Chandrasekhar Rao.A
Nitish Kumar has officially said that he does not have any plans to become a prime minister The political analysts believe that the prime minister’s target is the chair.But the most significant problem is the Congress who are claiming that as the most powerful political group, it will be the central point of any coalition.
