Chennai, November 19, : , Tamil Nadu farmer leader P.Ayyakkannu ended Friday’s 39-day-old relay strike of hunger after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the Centre had decided to repeal three Farm Laws passed by Parliament. Ayyakkannu and his co-farmers ended the strike by handing out sweets to motorists in Trichy Karur High Way.
Ayilai Sivasuriyan, the Trichy District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, also applauded the decision by the Prime Minister to abolish the farm laws that farmers had been protesting against since the beginning of last year.
Sivasuriyan stated to IANS that he was happy for the government’s announcement about the repeal of three laws regarding agriculture.We would remind the Prime Minister’s team not to pass Minimum Support Price for Crops into law.This is yet another area where the farmers are being exploited.
For the last 39 days, Tamil Nadu farmers were in a hunger strike led by P.Ayyakkannu to protest the three farm laws.

Thangarasu, a CPI leader, was present at the front of the protest and spoke to IANS.He said that the government of India and the Prime Minister have finally understood the absurdity of India’s draconian agricultural laws.
The announcement by the Prime Minister is welcomed.It is clear that the country’s democracy and its democratic traditions remain intact.
We hope the Prime Minister will also think about setting a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural products.
