Tulsi Gowda .A 72-year-old woman from Karnataka received the Padma Shri award from the hands of President Ramnath Kovind.
Wearing only a sari in traditional attire .Went to the award ceremony with bare feet.Tulsi Gowda was honored with the fourth highest award at the event in New Delhi.Tulsi Gowda is a tribal woman from the Halakki tribe in Karnataka.She belongs to a poor family .Despite having no formal education, she has made immense contributions towards preserving the environment.Medicinal plants are described as having a remarkable knowledge of different species.She started planting plants when she was 12 years old.She also joined the Forest Department as a temporary volunteer.Her dedication to nature was recognized there.
After that her job in the same department became permanent.Also at the age of 72, she instructed to young people about planting plants.Describe the techniques in them.She has planted more than 30,000 saplings and looks after the nurseries of the Forest Department.
Her work has been honored by the Government of India and various organizations.She was honored with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, on 8 November 2021.
The Padma Awards ceremony was held on Monday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan under the patronage of President Ram Nath Kovind.Seven were awarded Padma Vibhushan, 10 were awarded Padma Bhushan and 102 were awarded Padma Shri.
Of the 29 women, one transgender received the award.
