US Senator Jon Ossoff meets students, business leaders in Mumbai

Mumbai 31 August : A visit by US Senator Jon Ossoff met students, business leaders, and other people as part of his eight-day visit to India to strengthen relations between Washington and New Delhi at various levels, officials said on Wednesday.
Senator Ossoff, an ex-journalist and documentary film producer who was elected from Georgia, the state of Georgia was able to hold an open debate with students of Jai Hind College in an attempt to learn from the youth of India about the challenges that their generation faces.

He also met with EXIM Bank Managing Director Harsha Bangari as well as other senior officials to discuss potential of FDI opportunities in the US and trade relations between India and Georgia.of Georgia.

Ossoff 35, the youngest senator currently sitting was a guest speaker at the senior executive level of Mumbai-based Aditya Birla Group (ABG) to discuss their investment in Georgia and ways to strengthen the relationship between his state and India.

The ABG is the parent company of the Georgia-headquartered Novelis and BirlaCarbon and he met Santrupt Misra, Satish Pai, Ila Patnaik and others.

He also discussed trade, economic, and security concerns with American diplomats in India and abroad, which included Consul-General in Mumbai Mike Hankey and US Acting Chief of Mission in New Delhi Brian Heath.

In the earlier days in June Osboff contacted the Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu to emphasize the opportunities for continued collaboration between both nations, and to address the major concerns of the Indian diaspora in Georgia.

In addition, the largest Hindu temple, which was inaugurated in the US in July 2007 the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, is located in Atlanta the capital of Georgia state.

Ssoff is a member of the powerful Senate Judiciary, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, Banking, Housing, Urban Affairs and Rules Committees and other panels.
