Mehreen Pirzada, known for her role in the OTT series “Sultan of Delhi,” recently spoke out about a controversial scene in the show.The series, which can be watched on Disney+Hotstar, is based on Arnab Ray’s book, “Sultan of Delhi: Ascension.”
In the series, Pirzada portrayed a sequence involving marital rape, but some people on social media misunderstood it as a sexual encounter.Pirzada addressed this issue on her Twitter account, expressing her disappointment in how this important topic was misconstrued.
She explained, “There was a scene in Sultan Of Delhi that depicted a brutal Marital Rape.It pains me to see that a serious issue like Marital Rape has been described by many in the media as a ‘S*x’ Scene.This trivializes something that is a serious issue that many women the world over are currently dealing with.”
Pirzada went on to urge people to understand the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that they have sisters and daughters who should never experience such trauma.She condemned the brutality and violence against women.
As an actor, she clarified that her job was to do justice to the role, and she praised the professionalism of the team behind “Sultan Of Delhi,” ensuring that the actors were comfortable during the shooting of difficult scenes.
“Sultan of Delhi” is a Hindi-language period crime thriller series scripted by Suparn Verma, directed by Milan Luthria, and produced by Namit Sharma under Reliance Entertainment.Set in Delhi in 1962, it draws inspiration from Arnab Ray’s novel.The show boasts an ensemble cast, including Tahir Raj Bhasin, Mouni Roy, Anjum Sharma, Vinay Pathak, Anupriya Goenka, Nishant Dahiya, Mehreen Pirzada, and Harleen Sethi, among others.It made its debut on Disney+ Hotstar on October 13, 2023.
