The tender follows an all-party Climate Agreement entered into on June 30, 2021 to store carbon, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The storage and capture of carbon (CCS) plays a major role in reaching the national climate goals, since CCS technology could aid in cutting emissions that would otherwise be hard to decrease in different ways.” is the declaration.

“The CCS can also be employed to generate negative emissions” the report added.

Applications for tenders can be submitted each year, while exploration permits last for up-to six years, according the DEA.

“If an appropriate location for carbon storage can be discovered, the permit may be extended for a period of up to 30 years.” it said.
