Khartoum 5 Sep : The death number of people killed by the recent floods and heavy rains in Sudan has reached 112 according to the Sudan’s National Council for Civil Defence announced. “The torrential flooding and rains have killed 112 people and injured 115 others,” the Council said in an announcement on Sunday.
An estimated of 34,944 homes were damaged and 49,096 were damaged during the current season of rain across the nation the Council stated it added that 413 public utilities as well as 108 stores and shops were damaged.
Over 250 villages in northern, central and western Sudan were ravaged by torrential rains for the last month, Xinhua news agency reported.
On the 21st of August on, the Sudanese Council of Ministers declared the emergency state of emergency in the six states that were hit by flooding of River Nile, Gezira, White Nile, West Kordofan, South Darfur and Kassala.
More than 136,000 people are impacted by the flooding as well as heavy rainfall all across Sudan since June according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Sudan often sees floods brought on by heavy rains in the months of June until October.
