Sydney 1st, September : Australia have included Singapore-born, Perth raised Tim David and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson in their men’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.Pat Cummins returns to play after being absent from the ODI Series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in North Queensland for a time of physical and rehabilitation and Adam Zampa returns to the T20 team after the birth of his son Eugene.
A star batter Tim David has been included with leg spinner Mitchell Swepson missing out having been part of the team that was crowned the T20 World Cup for the first time and beat New Zealand in the final, in Dubai last year.
The team will go to India to play three T20 internationals in September.
They will then return to play West Indies, England and India in the lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which begins against New Zealand at the SCG on 22nd October.
NSP Chair of Selectors George Bailey said, “This is a very similar team to the one that was the first Australian team to win the T20 World Cup who are looking forward to playing the tournament in their home stadium.
“Mitchell Swepson was fortunate to be left out based on the conditions in the UAE at the time of the last World Cup where we planned for spinny, tired wickets in comparison to what we’d expect to be good batting conditions, along with the larger fields in Australia.
“Tim (David) continues to make himself known with several impressive performances in leagues across the globe and has earned himself a spot in the team.
He is a talented natural ball striker, who will provide additional batting depth to the team that has had many of successes in T20 cricket.
“We believe he will play the same role the one he has played in the last couple of years.”
David Warner will miss the Indian tour as part of a planned time of prepping for a complete summer tour.Cameron Green has been included in the team for the Indian T20 Series.
“Cameron’s growth in all aspects of his game has been impressive , and we are thrilled to see him keep the development of his overall T20 cricket through more exposure to the format” Bailey said.
