Hong Kong, Aug 26 : US sanction-hit Huawei was able to enjoy some positive news when Huawei came in second in the Chinese tablet market, a step behind Apple, with a 0.5 percent growth, bringing it to 1 million units in the June quarter.In a recent report, harmed by disruptions in production, Apple suffered a 19 percent decrease in its year-over-year sales and its market share for tablets fell to 24 percent in China in the second quarter of.
“With 17.7 percent market share Huawei maintained second spot despite supply issues due to a strong and loyal customer base in its home market,” the Canalys report stated.
China’s PC (desktop notebook, notebook and workstation) sales fell by 16 percent in the second quarter of 2022.
Desktops (including desktop workstations) decreased by 26 percent and notebooks (including mobile workstations) were down by 10 percent.
Both the commercial and consumer segments were impacted by weak demand despite macroeconomic headwinds, and a production stoppage in the second quarter.
“It was a tough year for the vendors in China’s PC market in mainland China.The decline of 16 percent in shipment volumes was the biggest drop in the past nine years” stated analyst Emma Xu.
“Demand for both consumer and commercial was stricken by the strict measures to control pandemics adopted across the nation.In the commercial realm the largest decline was seen among large companies,” Xu added.
Along with a decrease in market demand, vendors were impacted by continuous production and logistic disruptions, which caused supply shortages, particularly for major vendors like Apple and Lenovo.
Lenovo, Dell and HP maintained their top three spots in the market for PCs in Q2 however, all three had lower shipment numbers.
Huawei took over Asus in the fourth spot in the total PC market in the country.Asus finished in the top five spots, delivering 0.7 million units in the second quarter.
