Ballia, Uttar Pradesh : , December 12, 2012 – A BJP leader from Ballia has been arrested for allegedly raping a 26 year-old girl and threatening her life.Ashok Kumar Mishra, a Bairia officer, stated that Ranjit Maurya (BJP’s general secretary for backward classes wing), was arrested on the complaint by a woman.
The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m.Thursday evening when the suspect entered the victim’s home.
Lal Bahadur, the district president of the wing confirmed that Maurya was named general secretary.
Reporters were told by the woman that Maurya had offered her to be vice president of the BJP’s women wing.She also used obscene words with her.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Surendra Singh has demanded immediate arrest of Maurya and alleged police was initially ‘hesitating’ in lodging the FIR.
“The FIR was registered when I intervened after the victim and her mother met me,” the MLA said, adding that he has informed senior party leaders about it.
The MLA said he will fight for ensuring justice to the victim.
