Hyderabad 31 August : Following the death of four women after having Double Puncture Laparoscopy (DPL) in an operation camp for family planning in the Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, authorities have moved the thirty women to hospitals to receive treatment.Health authorities stated that the health of women were stable.
Thirteen women were admitted to Apollo Hospitals and the remaining 17 were transferred to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad.
Two women were receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at NIMS.
Doctors stated that they had physical weakness and were receiving treatment in the ICU.
Doctors stated there was no reason for concern and that all women would likely be released in two of days.
Health Minister T.Harish Rao on Wednesday, visited NIMS Hospital and called on the women.He informed journalists that all women were safe and will be released in two days three days.
The minister claimed that the government is providing top care to women.
Every patient is examined by a single doctor.
Four women have died due to complications following being treated with DPL in the female sterilization camp held on the 25th of August at an Civil Hospital in Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district.
They suffered of acute gastroenteritis, and died during treatment.Two deaths were reported on Tuesday and Monday.
Harish Rao termed the incident tragic and said that it has is the first time it has ever happened in the history of the state.He said that more than 12 lakh women were treated for family planning in the state over the past 7 to 6 years.
The health minister has said that the government is taking the incident seriously and has revoked the licence of the surgeons who performed the operation.The government also put the hospital’s director of the hospital on a lifetime suspension for life.
Harish Rao said the government has ordered an inquiry to be conducted by Director of Public Health Dr G.Srinivasa Rao.He believes that the report could be presented in the next week, or in 10 days.
“After getting the report We will take actions against those who are found to be negligent.
We will take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incident,” he said.
Autopsy results of four women are expected to be released on Thursday.
This will aid officials in arriving at a conclusion on the reason of deaths.
According to Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao Dr G Srinivasa Rao, 34 women were treated at the clinic.
Four of the women later suffered of acute gastroenteritis and sought private hospitals to seek treatment.All four women died while receiving treatment.
The director of public health said that sterilisation camps are an everyday exercise in which DPL vasectomy, tubectomy, and DPL procedures are performed.”Experienced doctors perform the procedures.This incident is a blip.We are currently trying to figure out what caused the tragic incident” he said.
According to the official, DPL is a preferred procedure for women who desire permanent sterilization with little or no complications.Women who go through DPL are discharged the same day and return to their daily activities immediately.
The state government declared an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees and two beds-room houses for the household of the deceased.Children who survive of those who died will be admitted in the residential school of their choice.
