Mahatma Gandhi Death Anniversary: Martyrs’ Day or Shaheed divas is celebrated on January 30.Today marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
On this day in 1948, while Gandhi was attending a prayer meeting in the Birla House compound, he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse.Godse, a member of the Hindu Mahasabha, accused Gandhi of favoring the Muslim community during the partition of India in 1947.He shot Gandhi three times in the chest and abdomen with a gun.Gandhi’s last words are “Hey Ram”.Since then, Shaheed Diwas has been celebrated to mark Gandhi’s death anniversary.Gandhiji, in his autobiography ‘My Experiments with Truth’, described his childhood fear of demons.
When Gandhiji was a child, they had a maid named Rambha.Gandhiji remembered and respected her like his own mother.
