Kim stated that there are fears that the journey back to normalcy could be halted if this crisis is not addressed.

He spoke to Kim during a meeting of chiefs from 22 tertiary hospital in Seoul.

“We are going to improve the hospital’s bed management system.”

This is in light of rising concern about the capacity for critical care beds in the capital, which accounts for around 80 percent of South Korea’s daily Covid-19 patients.

On Thursday, 78.1 percent of the intensive care beds were used in capital, Seoul at 80.9 percent.

In recent weeks, the number of seriously ill patients is on the rise, surpassing 500 in the most recent weeks since the country launched its “living With Covid-19” program. This month, the scheme allows for an easier social separation to allow people to gradually return back into normal life.

Kim stated that serious patients would be sent to the available ICU beds, regardless of their location in capital and non-capital regions.

He asked for hospitals to transfer patients with the intensive care virus to their normal recovery rooms as soon as possible after they improve in health.

Kim stated that the current number of patients in intensive care units is too high compared to the actual number.
