Kashmiri Pandits’ murder: SC to hear on Friday plea for SIT inquiry

New Delhi, Sep 1 : The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday a plea for SIT investigation into the targeted murders of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir in 1990 that led to their departure out of the Valley.
Hearings on the plea comes when a curative petition, brought by Roots in Kashmir is in the process in the Supreme Court, seeking an investigation either by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the mass murders and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in 1989-1990.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and CT Ravikumar will consider a petition filed by the NGO We the Citizens asking for direction on the rehabilitation of those who left of the Valley and to have a SIT be established to identify individuals who “aided and facilitated the mass murder” of the Hindu and Sikh communities in the period 1989-2003.

In March of this year the plea brought by Roots in Kashmir contesting the ruling of the highest court that was which was issued in 2017.

The court dismissed the petition by saying, “the instances referred in the petition relate to 1989-90 which is more than 27 years that have gone since the time of the petition.There is no reason to believe that the plea will be successful because the evidence is not likely to exist at this point.”

A statement from the organization stated the following: in the support of the petition an official certificate has been issued by a senior advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association President, Vikas Singh.The petition also cites an order from the year 2017 Delhi High Court order on Sajjan Kumar in the case of anti-Sikh riots.The high court, which granted the appeal, stated: “It is important to assure the many victims who are waiting with awe that despite the obstacles the truth will prevail and justice will be served .”
