Sehgal, an NRI woman, is trying to present Indian culture to the future by practicing Indian culture even in the superpower.She has lived in America for the past two decades.
Anu Sehgal was born in India and emigrated from Delhi to New York in 1995.Anu Sehgal, who settled there, founded The Culture Tree, an organization that aims to teach our culture to children of Indian and South Asian descent in the United States.
Anu Sehgal holds an MBA from Yale University and later switched to Marketing and Brand Management.However, she says she believes that understanding her heritage, culture and language is crucial for her children to become self-aware and self-confident after becoming a mother.
Raised by a Muslim mother and Hindu father in Meerut, Anu Sehgal founded The Culture Tree with the aim of helping Indian children in America learn about the richness of our culture.The show, which was originally designed only for her two children, was soon joined by 13 children.
Despite the emphasis on language, cultural programs and cooking classes have been started.Although language classes were initially started for children between the ages of 4 and 12, it has now been extended to other ages, Sehgal said.
Museums, galleries, schools, and libraries also joined hands with her.Culture Tree hosts key festivals, events, puppet shows and a variety of South Asian dishes.Culture Tree is expanding in Hindustani languages like Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati etc.Especially the puppet shows organized by Anu Sehgal are getting good recognition.She has performed in the United States as well as in parts of Singapore and India.It must be said that it is a matter of pride to teach other children not to forget our culture and tradition of going to countries like America in these days when our Indian cultures are unknown to the many present children who were born and raised here as Indians.
