Gujarat farmer commits suicide after being harassed by builders

Mehsana (Gujarat), July 10 : A farmer committed suicide after being harassed by some builders, who not only duped him of Rs 5 lakh but also blocked the road to his farm, in Kheralu Taluka of the Mehsana district in north Gujarat.

Jasubhai Chaudhary, deceased farmer Kiran’s elder brother, in his complaint with the Kheralu Police said, “My younger brother committed suicide on Saturday because builder Keval Chaudhary and four others cheated him and blocked road to his farm, though he took up the matter with the builder several times, they did not give passage for farm and so he committed suicide.”

In the FIR, Jasubhai said his brother used to cultivate the ancestral agriculture land in the Kheralu, where he had constructed a house and was living with his family.On road touching the farm, Vinubhai Chaudhary and Keval Chaudhary have developed a commercial complex, which blocked the road leading to Kiran’s farm.

So Kiran requested them to give way for his farm, to which they initially refused.

Later the builders agreed to give passage but on a condition that Kiran will have to buy one shop in the complex, to which he agreed and also made a down payment of Rs 5 lakh.

However, even after the partial payment, the builders did not give passage to his farm nor allotted him a shop in the commercial complex.Left with no option after being harassed by the builders, he committed suicide by hanging himself.

Kheralu Police Inspector, A.T.Patel said that the builders have been booked for abetment to suicide.”Police will carry out an investigation and the builders and their associates will be arrested soon,” he added.
