Gandhinagar : , Two relatives of Gujarat’s first Omicron case were found to be Covid positive.They are a Zimbabwean resident and were sent their samples for genome sequencing.Dr.S Chatterjee, the nodal officer for Covid at GG Hospital Jamnagar, stated to IANS that after the results of the 72-year old Zimbabwean resident turned out to be Omicron positive we had taken samples from his close contacts and sent them for Covid-19 testing.
Two cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed positive from the other, which had previously been negative.His wife (47) and his brother-in law (35) are both positive.We have both admitted them, and they are now in isolation.”
“We also sent their DNA samples to Gandhinagar’s Gujarat Biotechnology Research (GBR), Laboratory for Genome Sequencing.We also carried out tracing and tracking their contacts.He said that the wife of the patient is clearly from Zimbabwe, and that her brother is most likely from the UAE.
On Saturday, the 72-year-old Morakda village resident near Jamnagar was omicron-positive.The Gujarat health authorities conducted contact tracing after the man returned from Zimbabwe, which was one of the “at-risk” countries identified by authorities.
He arrived in New York on November 28th to meet his father.His doctor advised him to have an RT-PCR test performed after he developed fever.
The private laboratory informed the authorities that his Covid-19 test was positive, as per the mandate.
