BJP, Congress in war of words over Rahul’s meeting with controversial Christian priest

Chennai 12th September : Chennai, Sep 12 : BJP as well as the Congress on Monday fought a battle of opinions about Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visit with controversial Christian pastor, George Ponniah, at Kanniyakumari during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
BJP women’s Women’s wing Women’s wing of the BJP President Vanathi Sreenivasan, in a statement, demanded an apology from the Congress leader over his meeting with Ponniah and requested that he clarify whether he was a fan of the views of the controversial Christian pastor on Hinduism.

She also inquired about what had occurred between Ponniah and Rahul Gandhi, and claimed that Rahul Gandhi Congress leader doesn’t have time to devote time to Hindus as well as Hindu temples, but has time to get to know individuals who are controversial, like George Ponniah.

While on the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi was in contact with the Christian priest George Ponnaih and the priest, in a video clipping said to the Gandhi that “Jesus was a real god, unlike Shakthi and other goddesses and gods”.

In the course of an important debate, the priest said that he had not slammed the Hindu religion.

In the meantime the Congress has been vocally in opposition to the BJP on the issue, and with the party’s chairman Jairam Ramesh, in a statement issued on Monday, declaring that “the BJP hate factory was posting tweets of Rahul Gandhi that did not have any relevance”.

Gandhi is currently in Thiruvananthapuram in the course of the 3,570-km long Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir.

On Monday, he met the Latin Catholic priests who are protesting against the Vizinjam port.
