“New Birdwatch contributors who have fulfilled the eligibility requirements will start with an initial rating impact score of zero that they can increase by consistently assessing notes of other contributors and identifying them in a consistent manner to determine if they are helpful and not,” the company said in a blog post.

“Once the contributor’s score has reached five, they can begin taking notes,” it added.

The platform also stated that contributors can improve their Writing and Rating Impact scores by taking notes that are helpful and continuing to evaluate notes written by other people.

Writing notes repeatedly that have an unhelpful rating of not helpful, can result in an eroding score and may temporarily block the note-writing ability of a contributor.

Birdwatch is a program made up of members of people or contributors who help to identify the information in Tweets they believe to be false and make notes that provide useful context.

Only notes that have been valued as helpful by a broad group of contributors or “bridge” between groups of people who tend to be in disagreement in their past ratings are posted on Twitter.

The program was launched in 2021.It is constantly being improved and updated due to analysis by our research team as well as input from our advisory board as well as Birdwatch contributors.
