New York, Sep 3 : Celebrities from different types of life paid tribute to Serena Williams as she brought the curtain down on her remarkable career that lasted 27 years.It saw her win 23 major singles awards and make her famous across the globe.
The American lost to Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1 in third-round matches in the middle of crowds of Arthur Ashe Stadium, at the US Open on Saturday (IST) which marked the final day of her career as a professional tennis player.

Michelle Obama, the wife of the former US President Barack Obama tweeted, “Congrats on your amazing career @SerenaWilliams! We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to see a girl in the midst of Compton grow into one of the most successful athletes of all time.I’m happy of you, my friend.I’m excited to see how your lives continue to change with your skills.”

Young Coco Gauff described Serena the most famous of the past, and said she began playing tennis because of the legend.”Serena Thank you for everything.It’s because of you that I am a believer in this idea.The impact you’ve made on me is beyond words that could be put together.

From the moment Serena took home her first major tennis tournament, the US Open, in September 1999, until the final one, the Australian Open in January 2017, she won 23 major titles and her elder sister Venus seven.The remainder of the tennis players 18 in all to collect the total of 40.

Together, the sisters took home together 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and never lost in a final.In addition, they each earned three Olympic gold medals as well as bronze.
