Union Labour Ministry extends public utility service status to three industries

New Delhi, Aug 31 : Ministry of Labour and Employment has extended the status of public utility service of three sectors: those that are engaged in the production or manufacturing of mineral oil (crude oil) aviation and motor spirit diesel oil, kerosene oil fuel oil, various hydrocarbon oils and their blends , including synthetic oils for lubrication, fuels industries involved in food products and the steel and iron industry.They are included by the first schedule of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947).
“Whereas the Central Government is satisfied that public interest requires the services involved in manufacturing or production of mineral oil (crude oil) aviation and motor spirit diesel oil, kerosene oil fuel oil, various hydrocarbon oils and blends of them, including synthetic fuels, lubricating oil and other similar items, which are covered under the items 26 of the first Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), to be a public utility service in the sense of the Act,” said a notice released by the Ministry on Tuesday.

It was stated that the Central Government is of the conviction that public interest demands an expansion of the utility public status to these industries for a duration of six months.

“Now is the time to in the exercise of the powers granted by the provision to clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), the Central Government hereby declares the services of the industry that is engaged in the production or manufacturing of mineral oil (crude oil) (crude oil), motor and aviation spirit diesel oil, kerosene oil fuel oil, various hydrocarbon oils and their blends , including synthetic fuels, lubricating oils , and similar products to be public utility services to fulfill the requirements of the Act.Act for an amount of six months with beginning on the 28th of August 2022.” it said.
