Srinagar 14 August : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the “Lion of Baramulla”, Maqbool Sherwani, and to the courageous Sikh Regiment soldiers of Sikh Regiment who made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard the lives of thousands of Kashmiris and stopped the incursion of Pakistan regular army soldiers as well as tribal raiders.The Lieutenant Governor laid a a wreath at the Sikh War Memorial and then paid tribute to Maqbool Sherwani at the Maqbool Memorial Sheerwani Hall Baramulla.
He also honored his family of Maqbool Sheerwani and war veterans as well as the kin of freedom fighters in his visit.
In honor of the contribution of Maqbool Sherwani Sinha stated that in the month of October 1947, the young man fought against the brutal atrocities committed by the Pakistani government and its army, and defended the glory of the Tricolor.
The Lieutenant Governor mentioned the Sikh heroes led by Lieutenant Colonel Diwan Ranjit Rai who set an example of devotion, courage and dedication to duty in protecting every inch of the territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I also acknowledge the sacrifices of our predecessors who kept our flag high and ensured that our journey to progress was not a slog.
Youth should draw inspiration from the ideas and ideals that have shaped our future to take on the challenges of the future,” Sinha said.
