Mogadishu 22nd August : Somali government has confirmed that 21 people were killed in the terrorist attack on a renowned hotel in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The terrorist attack occurred on Friday night, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Health Minister Ali Haji Adan on Sunday stated that 15 of the wounded suffered grave injury and were in critical condition following the attackers had used explosives to blast into the popular Hayat hotel and engaged security forces in an intense gun battle that lasted for 30 hours.

“Twenty-one individuals were killed and 117 were wounded in the horrific terrorist attack on the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu”, Haji informed the state-owned Somali National Television.

In the past, the Police Commissioner Abdi Hassan Mohamed told journalists in Mogadishu that security forces repelled al-Shabab’s takeover of Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu in the early hours of Sunday.

Mohamed said the security forces were focused on rescuing people from the site during the rescue operations and he said 106 people comprising women and children, were rescued.
