There is a debate over the electoral rolls as Congress is preparing for the presidential election

New Delhi, Aug 31 : The procedure to conduct the Congress President’s election has been in the spotlight after some leaders have questioned the lack of availability of the electoral rolls in the public domain.
Two Congress leaders, Manish Tewari and Karti Chidambaram, on Wednesday asked the Central Election Authority, headed by Madhusudan Mistry to release the electoral rolls and accessible via the Congress website.

However the CEA stated that the rolls will be made available to candidates running in elections.

Tewari as well as Karti Chidambaram have expressed concern about the method in the way that the presidential election in the party was conducted.

In announcing the necessity of an electoral college with a clear definition, Karti Chidambaram said any election that is ad hoc is useless.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday.

he declared: “Every election needs a clearly defined and transparent electoral college.The procedure of creating the electoral college should be clear, well-defined and transparent.An ad-hoc electoral college is not an electoral college.”

Anandpur Sahib MP Tewari too has raised questions about the rolls of voters ahead of the presidential election of the party in which he said that the rolls should be disclosed to ensure a fair and free elections.

Tewari expressed his reaction to veteran leader Mistry’s assertion that party members who wish to run for office are able to access the voter list in PCC offices since the list of electors is not released to the public.

In a set of tweets posted on Tuesday he stated: “With respect to @MD_Mistry ji.How can we have an open and fair election without a publically accessible electoral roll? The essential element of fair and free procedure is that the names and addresses of electors should be posted on the official website of @INCIndia in an open manner.”
