Bengaluru, Nov 28, : .The denial by police of permission for a show by stand-up comedian Munawar Fauqui, which was scheduled in Bengaluru on Sunday has drawn criticism from social media users. The Bengaluru police refused permission, claiming that the show could cause law and order problems.
The Ashoknagar police wrote to the organizers a day before the show. They said Faruqui was a controversial figure. They cited cases against him in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, and other states.
They also claimed that many states have banned Faruqui’s shows.
The police stated that they have credible information that multiple organisations are opposed to the show.
This could cause chaos and disturb the public peace, harmony, and law and order, and the show should be cancelled.
Faruqui tweeted: “Nafrat jeet hai, Artist haar gaya.I’m done! Goodbye! INJUSTICE”.
The police action was criticized on social media by Shashi Tharoor, a former Union Minister and Congress leader, calling it a “deplorable” act.
Sources said that Faruqui’s proceeds were to go to an organization run by Puneeth Rajkumar (deceased Kannada actor).
