2024 LS polls: BSP to appoint upper caste members in booth committees

Party’s Uttar Pradesh unit president Vishwanath Pal said, “To regain the lost ground in the state, the BSP is working on the 2007 assembly election strategy when the party formed majority government. At that time, the BSP had gone it alone in the assembly election.Though considered a Dalit-based party, we got the support of all the communities – Dalits, OBCs, Muslims and upper castes in the 2007 assembly election.”

Vishwanath Pal further said, “The BSP has decided to go solo in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. So, we have decided to adopt the 2007 assembly election tactics to win the election.

Along with Dalits, OBCs and Muslims, the upper caste community will be included in the booth committees that is working at the grass root level to strengthen the support base of the party before the 2024 Lok Sabha election. This is in keeping with the party slogan of ‘Sarvjan Hitaye, Sarvjan Sukhaye’.”

The BSP has been trying to increase it Dalit outreach but the response, so far, has been tepid.

The party’s decision of going solo in the general elections has apparently not been well received by its voters who feel that the party is not equipped to take on the BJP alone.

Besides, the BSP also faces a dearth of leaders form various castes and communities since most of them have either been shown the door by Mayawati or have left for greener pastures.

Therefore, the BSP now wants to rope in upper caste leaders at the booth level to rejuvenate the party organisation.
