She reexamined her eating and consuming habits.

My personal problems and my environmental anxiety led me to make a change in my life, starting my zero-waste journey.

This journey is not an easy one unless you do your research and choose the best products to protect the environment.

As part of my research I talked to many businesses and customers to find out why eco-friendly hasn’t been given the attention it merits from both a consumer and business perspective.

IANS was told by Chaitsi Ahuja (founder of Brown Living) that November 2019 marked the launch of my platform for sustainable living.

Even though the market place for sustainable products has become more competitive every day, Ahuja is one of the early entrants who feels competition shows that there’s a market and that sustainable products are on the rise.

We created the marketplace to promote a fair, healthy and financially sustainable platform that allows sellers small and large to sell and showcase their products.

Her brand was instrumental in creating a partnership and synergies among sustainable and ethical brands, where they collaborated and co-created to support this lifestyle.

Our challenge is to keep up with well-funded companies that have over-consumption, single-bottom-line growth (profit), and a single agenda. It’s about time we institutionalise the triple-bottom-line reporting (people-planet-profit) to be able to truly make a change, we are already seeing the shift in equity markets with ESG Funds.”

Ahuja stressed that “going plastic-free” is a process and doesn’t happen in an instant. She was part of the panel discussion at the Raipur National Tribal Dance Festival.

Ahuja told IANS that although Plastic is relatively recent (around 200 year old), it isn’t going away anytime soon.Plastic has been around for at least 900years, compared to 200 years ago.

The key strategy of most FMCG companies has been to market ‘packaged goods.Everything you purchase, from fruits and vegetables to metal containers, is wrapped in plastic that’s impossible to recycle.

We can only delay that plastic piece from going to landfill.Find a purpose for it and upcycle it.Recycle responsibly.

Being sustainable is an ongoing journey.

We all have to pay attention to what we eat.Ask for sustainable packaging when buying your next item.

This entrepreneur claims that almost 3 out 4 millennials are affected by Eco-anxiety, even though her company employs over 3,000 artisans and 270+ small businesses. She also plants 10,000 trees for the business.

“I’m one of the 75% of these millennials, and I know with certainty that this is due to them.We are witnessing even slight changes in our consumption patterns, brand communication, business models and policy.

Unfortunately, the millennial generation has no choice but to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. We are creating future generations and preparing them to live in a new world.

She predicted that the industry of eco-friendly, sustainable products and services would undergo a major structuring, quality inspection, price mapping, and consumer regulation. Her journey began in March 2019 when she launched the “buy nothing” challenge, where she refused to purchase anything except food.

Ahuja said that the platform aims to improve their footprint in India, and become a household name for sustainable living.
