Budapest 6 September : Hungary has this year experienced the hottest summer since 1901 the nation’s Meteorological Service (MOSZ) said.The data shows that the summer of 2022, which covered the months of June, July and August, averaged a temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius which is two degrees more than the average summer temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius which was recorded between 1991 to 2020, Xinhua news agency reported.
The summer of this year was 0.5 degrees more hot than the one of 2003, when it set the previous record as per MOSZ.
An average of 11 days had temperatures higher than 35 degrees this is eight more days than the typical.There were 46 days where temperatures exceeded 30 degrees which is twenty days greater than the average.
From the beginning of June until the beginning of August the country experienced five heatwaves.In these periods, the air only cooled for a brief period and it reached 40 degrees mostly in the southern and central parts of Hungary.
Apart from the scorching heat, Hungary also experienced drought this summer.According to MOSZ, in the first eight months of this year, Hungary had a national average of just 263.6 millimeters of precipitation.This is the lowest level since the start of the 20th century (behind 1992 and 1993).
These factors had dramatic effects on yields of crops.The Ministry of Agriculture will publish specific figures next month.
