Mark Liu, Chairman of TSMC, informed shareholders in June that assessments had been made by the chipmaker to establish manufacturing facilities in Europe.

TSMC is currently building up capacity in the global market, including a factory for semiconductors in Japan worth $7 billion and a facility in Arizona valued at $12 billion. These facilities will be in production by early 2024.

TSMC is currently piloting 3-nanometer chip production and plans to begin mass production by 2022.

TSMC started pilot production at its Fab 18 plant in southern Taiwan of N3 chips.

Currently, Apple uses TSMC’s 5nm processors for the M1 chips and it is expected that TSMC’s 3nm processors will power the next generation of Apple Silicon.

Compared with the 5nm process, the 3nm gate-all-around (GAA) node boosts performance by 30 per cent, lowers power consumption 50 per cent and takes up 35 per cent less space.
