Thiruvananthapuram : , The new leadership of Congress party in Kerala — V.D.Satheesan, K.Sudhakaran — decided to fight into the enemy camp.He also approached the party high command against veteran Oommen Chandy or Ramesh Chennithala after they failed to show up for Monday’s UDF meeting. Both Chennithala and Chandy were former chairs of the UDF.They have been fighting a joint battle against the new leadership after feeling they have been marginalized.
According to a source, Sudhakaran, currently the Lok Sabha member representing Kannur, has already raised the matter with the AICC general secretary in Charge of Kerala Tariq Anwar.Satheesan also made the same decision.
The new leadership is unhappy because the internal problems within the Congress are being dragged into United Democratic Front, which leads the Congress.
Many allies, who have been in close contact with Chandy Chennithala and Chennithala over more than 20 years, are more comfortable with them then with Satheesan or Sudhakaran since they were not even in the picture until they assumed office following the April 6 assembly election debacle.
Sudhakaran tried to downplay the differences and told reporters on Tuesday that the media should not try to spice up the party’s events as they are capable to resolve any issues.
An anonymous media analyst said that things are looking very grim for the Congress party in Kerala at the moment.This infighting was what led to the party’s defeat in the assembly polls, something that has never happened before.
“The truth is that Chandy and Chennithala ruled affairs for nearly a quarter of a century.They fought each other and sometimes, for their own benefit, they got together when they wanted to keep some leaders out.Today, there is a new leadership.It’s only natural that they will have their own strategy.Chandy was the supreme leader when Chandy was in power.Everyone knew K.Karunakaran as the supreme leader until the mid-nineties, but Chandy made it clear that he was not the one to be trusted.If there is better sense among the top leadership, Congress party will be the direct beneficiary.
He said that the party has not received any support from the new generation voters in the past decade.If the leadership doesn’t see this, they will be the losers.”
Some of the people who were aligned to Chandy or Chennithala have been drifting away from them since Sudhakaran and Satheesan took over.They now support the new leadership.With A.K.Antony during the winter of his political career, and the rise of K.C.Chandy, Chennithala are also concerned about Venugopal in Delhi, as he favors the new leadership.
