Stern warning to Maharashtra Speaker

The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker for the delay in hearing and deciding the disqualification petitions filed by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).

It orally asked the Speaker to take a decision before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

N.Chandrababu Naidu

The Supreme Court on Friday asked Andhra Pradesh to “stay its hand” in arresting TDP supremo and former Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu in connection with the alleged Fibernet scam case.

It issued notice and orally asked the investigative agency to not arrest TDP chief in the meantime.

SC order enquiry against NCLAT members

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Chairperson of the NCLAT to conduct an enquiry into the working of a bench of the appellate tribunal which allegedly defied an order of the apex court.

It ordered that the enquiry report will be placed by NCLAT Chairperson before 5 pm on October 16.

It slammed the petitioner for wasting the top court’s time with frivolous plea and imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on the petitioner.

Jyotiraditya Scindia’s election to Rajya Sabha

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea challenging the election of Union Civil Aviation and Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M.Scindia to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2020.

It was contended that Scindia had suppressed the facts by not disclosing the FIR in his nomination form which amounts to fraud and corrupt practice and his election be declared as null and void.

Protection continued to Suvendu Adhikari’s relatives

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea by the West Bengal government against a Calcutta High Court order that granted protection to relatives of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s relatives.
