Melbourne August 24, : Charming Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan, who is in the “Platinum Category” of the Big Bash League (BBL) Player Draft on August 28, has stepped up the possibility for the batters of his country to have the chance to take part in the highly lucrative Australian domestic T20 competition and said he is “happy” should they be given the chance.Afghanistan spinners like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi may be household names, but their batters don’t appear in the many domestic T20 leagues around the globe.
Rashid Khan says they need to be given a chance because there are many young power-hitters who are waiting to be noticed.
An entire army of Afghanistan cricketers are in the BBL Draft with the likes of Rashid Khan, Qais Ahmad, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Rahman, and Zahir Khan, who are eligible for retention by various franchises, and other players, like Noor Ahmad, Ijaz Ahmadzai, Zia ur Rehman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shafiqullah Ghafari, Usman Ghani and others, are the other candidates in the roster of more than 250 cricketers across 19 nations in the Draft.
An article in cricket.com.au stated that nominations were received from 27 Afghan players for the BBL-12 Draft.
Rashid said that not only the spinners in the country, but also batters too have potential and the ability and all they needed was opportunities.”I would prefer to be able to see the batsmen instead of bowlers,” he told cricket.com.au.”We have numerous bowlers playing across the globe however I would be extremely happy when our batsmen took on the responsibility of playing in every league.
“That could aid them in improving their cricket and would be a beneficial idea for Afghanistan cricket.If they are given the chance they’ve done really impressively in the past, when some players been involved in the Pakistan Super League.If they are given the right chance, they will be able to show the world just how talented they really are.” the spinner, 23, added.
He said openers with big hits Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were top of the list of batters.Zazai is the second highest score of all time in T20Is following Australia captain Aaron Finch’s score of 172 against Zimbabwe.
The young southpaw scored unbeaten 162 off just 60 balls in Ireland in the year 2019.His score was accentuated with the score of 11 fours and 16 maximums.
This is a record in T20Is for an individual innings.The 24-year-old recorded 2,522 T20 runs at an average strike rate of 140 in 82 games in the Pakistan, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh leagues.
Gurbaz On the other side has a T20 ton on his resume with an unbeaten 121 for the Kabul Eagles in this year’s Shpageeza Cricket League in Afghanistan.
“They are extremely destructive batters, particularly in short formats,” said Rashid.”They’ve been very successful so far, and should they get the chance I’m pretty certain they’ll give the best.”
